Looking at my Brother’s new Pathfinder, I can only surmise that maybe the PO had a pet monkey, and they let the monkey paint the radio panel? Orange peel everywhere, when there’s no orange peel there’s visible scuffs or fingerprints in the damn paint. It’s all tacky cause it was laid on too thick. They even painted the damn knobs.
I’ve ordered some vinyl. Since I’m removing that panel to replace the head unit anyway, I’m going to attempt to sand it down and wrap it. I figure even if I botch it it’ll still look better than it currently does.
Took a while but I finally found a bluetooth head unit that can color match the panel lights and doesn’t look like ass. Should be arriving on Wednesday.

I like that HU, something like that would look nice in my NB instead of look like a baboon's ass.

WTF did they change the AC settings with a wire brush?

Is that a double DIN unit? If so, what is the model # and cost
?
My wife’s Explorer needs a new radio, and finding a radio/blue tooth HU that fits ain’t doesn’t “look like ass” is difficult.

Sony WX900BT. Met all my requirements for only $95: Bluetooth, volume knob (not buttons!), Changeable color, and steering wheel control support

Sony WX900bt. It’s double din, discontinued but you can find “l ike new” ones for $100

My Miata came with an awful old Sony Xplod head unit. It looks bad, but I figured it would serve as a theft deterrent. Nobody is breaking in to steal my worthless POS head unit.

There’s also units with adjustable colors (like finely tuned RGB customization of lights and text). I went single DIN because I like that style and the pocket is nice to have (and its cheaper) but I used an Alpine unit for that purpose. Got the colors exactly how I wanted them in my Subaru.

My NB came with a giant ancient touch screen unit. It actually looks okay (especially since it has an off button) but its annoying not having bluetooth since it’ s circa early 2000's. I hate spending money on radios so I am hoping to figure out a way to hook up aux in to a bluetooth adapter. It doesnt have an obvious aux in port but I bet it has plugs in the back somewhere.

The unit that came in the Pathfinder is the same. I think a huge touchscreen is useless without nav/mirror link, and it’s pre-bluetooth. There’s an aux cord snaking out from under the dash but in this day and age there’s no need for that.

I just dont like messing with it if it “works”. The touch screen function itself is usable and looks clean. Using Aux in is a perfectly fine solution. It has USB and I just plugged in a thumbdrive but I’d rather use my phone either way. Mainly due to it only supporting MP3 and most of my music collection is either in FLAC or OGG. Converting stuff would suck more than pulling the head unit.
But yeah I also already have a bluetooth aux dongle so I would just use that if theres an audio port in the rear of the unit. Then I have bluetooth and can ignore the unit forever. It does accept custom images for the background screen so I might as well do that and put something cool in there.

In my case, there’s a phone mount of some sort permanently affixed in a way that blocks the touch screen.

whoo in the hell decided that was a good idea lol.

Dunno but I gotta disassemble the dash to get it out. Might as well repla ce the head unit with one that doesn’t light up the car like a s tadium while I’m in there.

Here is my ugly head unit:

Here's mine, the stock Bose HU and tape deck. In terms of looks I like it better than the majority of after-market hardware out there.

That does look nice. My Miata lost the stock head unit before I bought it, so I just kept it as is.

perfect then. I never like the ones that stick you with some random neon purple like its 1995 and all the colors are the rage.

What happened? Did they clumsily take the dash apart with pliers, and spray paint it to hide all the damage?

GIS says the interior is all gray, so they just wanted a black panel. I’m gonna wrap it in matte black because gloss on surfaces you touch is just dumb.

So, they actually considered that an improvement? Some people are weird.

Oh it's terrible. But I didn't buy the car for the stereo, and any would-be thief is going to look at my head unit and respond the same way you did.

Yeah. I bought a Mazda 3 recently that had been detailed and I think they sprayed the Armor All with a fire hose. I had to take Windex and Simple Green to clean off all of that crap.
I hate detailing. Washing a car is okay; use Zip Wax. Vacuum it out once in a while. But detailing is an abomination.
